Description of Endotracheal Tube

An endotracheal tube (ETT) is a temporary breathing device inserted into the patient’s trachea. The ET tube is a flexible hollow plastic tube, usually made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It was passed into the trachea through the mouth (oral) or nose (nasal) to establish a patent airway and ensure adequate gaseous exchange or ventilation. The endotracheal tube can either be cuffed or uncuffed. Paediatrics tubes are usually uncuffed because their tracheal is easily damaged by pressure.
